They have not cleared that hurdle yet. Advertising will be come a part of twitter, both in posts and in posted ads on the sites. Use a client to view twitter and the spam is no longer a problem as you don't need to click their links and the posts just scroll down your screen. I believe you have a valid point but economics won't allow it to happen. Facebook had the same problem in the beginning and over came the problem without offending advertisers or the users. Look for a theme that looks like you would like and preview it. You should be able to see how the menu works in the preview. There are a lot of good free ebooks on the net about wordpress. Get a few and see what you can do. Set up a couple of blogs and see what they look like. You can't hurt anything and can learn a lot by just playing around. I am not an authority on blogs. If you set up a couple of different blogs to try them out try to get them on different host so that if you end up liking them you can share links and generate more traffic. Also if you make a mistake you can delete one and be no worse off. In changing themes on wordpress the only thing I have learned is to remove a plugins before you change themes and then add them back in. This will prevent the new theme from locking up.
